My experience here was absolutely horrible. We came to Stone Town from Bwejuu to stay in the city for 2 nights. We booked 2 nights at Z life, a private room for 3 people with a private bathroom. We got a confirmation email after the booking, so we assumed that everything was as it should be. When we arrived, the manager at the reception told us that they had given away our room to someone else, some kind of double booking had occurred. We told them that it’s fine and that we could just sleep in another room that has beds for 3 people. Lo and behold, they didn’t have any private rooms left and offered us to stay in a shared room, with a total of 6 beds, where 3 of these beds is already occupied, so with us 3 the room would be full. On top of this, we had a total of 9 big bags with us since we’re not very light travelers and was staying in Zanzibar for 16 days, and these bags wouldn’t fit in the shared room with the bags that was already there. We told the manager that we didn’t want to sleep in a shared room since that wasn’t that we payed for or what we expected to sleep in. The manager told us that if we didn’t want the shared room we can go and find another hotel to stay in. Mind you, this was the day of New Year, the 31 of December, at around 9 PM. The discussion with the reception at Z life continued to after 10 PM, when they still didn’t want to help us in any way, we left the hostel and found another place in Stone Town. The help that we wanted for them was to give us our money back since they can’t provide the room that we wanted, and help us find another place to stay in since it was a new city for all of us in the company. Since we didn’t get any help from the manager at the reception, and he constantly said that it’s only the owner of the hotel that has the power to give us our money back or find another hotel, we called the owner of Z life, Markus Staniszewski. He did not answer our calls, but answered the calls of his manager that called him in front of us. So we wrote to him on WhatsApp to explain the situation and see what he could do to help us, and Markus replied with “Ha ha ha ha😂” and then blocked my number. I have never been this disrespected or disregarded by any hostel or hotel services, and want to warn anyone that plans to stay here to not! Choose something else in the city, this place has very rude staff and a even more rude owner that works with fraudulent businesses. We have proceeded with this matter to the platform we booked this hostel at, and wish that the hostel gets removed from all the sites they’re on since they’re business is not only treating their customers badly and throws them out in the middle of the (new years) night, but also works in fraudulent and very shady ways!
